D2 Tutorial #3 How to Make a Glossy Button - Kaylie Blackwell

This is a very simple way to create a glossy button because it doesn't require many steps. If you are interested in giving circles a "pearly" effect, this tutorial will show you how.

P.S. I am using the Windows version of Adobe CS5 Illustrator, but this tutorial will work for Macs too.

1. Create a circle and fill it with a color. Here, I will fill my circle with cyan.

2. Duplicate the circle you've created and scale it to a smaller size. Fill it with a tint of the color you used in Step 1 and place it inside the bigger circle.

3. Select both circles with the selection tool. Go to Object>Blend>Make to merge the two circles' colors together.

4. Create an oval and fill it with a linear gradient at a -90 degree angle. Place the oval near the top of the bigger circle.

5. Go to the transparency palette and select a blend mode. Here, I will select "lighten" with a 100% opacity.

And you got yourself a glossy button!
