it is a really good start..but it looks a little unfinished...i would suggest bringing the eye on the left side of the puppy a little higher because it looks off balance
it is clear that once you finish all the detail you will have a great piece

try different brushes then go over them at a low low opacity to help give this photo some texture
The colors are too saturated, and it is easier to see that once they are next to each other.~ lol~ I know you hate that word because of color theory.
