D2 Tutorial # 3 Gaither

Marisol I found something that will help you out with your assignment.  When you want to use a shape that hangs off the page, but you don't want to see that excess to show this is easy steps to achieve that look you want.

Make a box

put any shape that hangs off the edge i am using a stair

then go up to window then go down to pathfinder the click on it.

select the items.

then click on the intersect tool which is under the shape modes. it is the second to the last boxes.

now this tool that i will show you will make the object u place on top of another object white while the part that is hanging off will stay the color and make the box the color of that shape. first make a box.

put any shape on top of the box im going to put a ellipse and selected both items.

then go under pathfinder again then under shape modes to exclude which is the last box.

This tool is the unite tool which brings the shapes together. make any shape i made an ellipse.  then put any other shape on top i put rectangles.

Then selected both items.
go under the pathfinder tool again then under the shape modes click on the unite tool which is the first box.
this tool is the front tool.

this tool will make the objects that are on top of another object white. i chose to use a letter with this demonstration.  you can use a shape, but put an object down.
then put any shape on top of the letter i put rectangles.

dont forget to created outline on the letter. then selected all of the objects.
then go to pathfinder tool then under shape modes go to front which is the second box. then you have it.
