D2 Tutorial 5 - Hamm

Today I will be showing how to easily create a wave pattern in Illustrator.

You will start by making a star using the start tool on a blank document.

Once you have your star you will need to use the direct select tool to select the bottom five points, it should look like this.

With those points deleted you will now need to compress and smooth out the remaining points.

you can do this by using the the direct select tool and flattening the points to make a slimmer object, after doing this you will now select the object go to Effects>Stylize>Round Corners and use 10pt.

You should end up with something like this.

Now we will turn this shape into a pattern that can be applied to other shapes later. You do this by going to Edit>Define Pattern and give it a new name.

Once you have done this, you can select the rectangle tool and draw out a shape. Then go to the swatches panel and select your newly created patten, it should turn out something like this
