Step1:Create 2 or three shapes
Step2: Select all shapes and group them together.
Step3: with the group selected go to Window< Appearance
Step4: click the Add New Stroke icon , then set your stroke weight and color
Step5: click the fx icon, then go to path < off set path and increase the number as much as wanted.
Step6: with the group still selected select the fx icon again. This time go to Pathfinder < Add
and you should get something like this
