D1 Open Series McDaniel

My theme is apocalyptic America, mostly Washington D.C. Each image shows what a few of Washington D.C.'s most notable buildings might look like after a nuclear apocalypse. (there is one image that is set in New York and not Washington D.C.) The one thing I did the most with these images is overlaying textures onto the images, however I did not specifically use the option overlay on all of them. Then I would go into the textures with an eraser and a paint brush to make the cracks or clouds look more believable. I also used the burn and dodge tool a lot to darken shadows and lighten highlights.

I like the idea and most of the execution. I wish there were more destruction in the Central Park photo, but the hole looks pretty good! On the Lincoln and Capitol Building, some of the cracks look like they are just laid over. They don't follow the shape of the object so it looks like the picture is cracked instead of the object. My favorite is probably the arial sooting one!

I think the overall concept is wonderful. The imagery is very powerful. I do agree with Corey though. Some of the cracks DO seem too overlaid.

Being that I am in the military, I find the images a nightmare, but if that was the focus, or idea that you wanted to achieve by making them, then by all means, I think you did a great job.

I wish you would have made more color images.

Wow. World wide monuments crumbling down. What a thought. I agree with the previous post but I do like the idea behind them. I think the best one is the Abraham Lincoln piece.

I really like the way that these turned out especially the one of the Washington monument because I think the cracks worked the best on that one. Although I do have to agree with what Corey said in that some of the images with the cracks look as if the cracks were just laid over the images and they don't really follow the stuctures the way they should. but other than that they look great.

Like the shot of Lincoln with his head about to roll off of his shoulders. I have to agree that the cracks need a little more realism, but it's not too bad at all. Also, I wish the smoke in the one of the Washington monument had different sharpness for each cloud of smoke, they all look like they are in a row, the same distance from where the photo was taken. Great work!
